The Mediterranean has always been more than a place to me.
It is a feeling.
Salt left on skin after swimming. The warmth of stone beneath bare feet. Linen drying in the sun. Long lunches that quietly become evenings. The particular gold of the light just before sunset.
It is a way of living that seems to soften the edges of time.
Solenne is deeply influenced by that world.
Not always literally. I don’t necessarily begin a design thinking of a particular island or stretch of coastline. Instead, those places have become part of the visual language through which I instinctively see colour and material.
The pale blue of larimar.
The turquoise-green of amazonite.
The warmth of tiger eye.
The imperfect white of a pearl.
The deep lapis blue of the sea as evening approaches.
Together they form a palette that feels both familiar and endlessly changing.
But Mediterranean life is about more than colour.
There is an appreciation for things that become more beautiful through use. Natural materials. Old stone. Weathered wood. Linen that softens over time. Objects made by hand and kept for years.
Perfection feels less important than character.
I think that philosophy sits quietly within Solenne too.
I want the jewellery to be worn rather than preserved. Layered with pieces you already own. Taken travelling. Worn to the sea, to dinner, through summers and eventually associated with memories that have nothing to do with the moment you first bought it.
Perhaps that is what a Mediterranean state of mind means to me.
Beauty without preciousness.
Luxury without formality.
Time taken rather than saved.
And the understanding that some of life’s most beautiful things are the ones that become part of everyday life.
